Jonathan McReynolds – LRF (Keep On Doin’ Better)
Jonathan McReynolds (born September 17, 1989) is an American Grammy Award-winning gospel musician. He started his music career in 2012 with the release of Life Music through Entertainment One Music.
In addition to winning in 2021, he has since had two Billboard Gospel Album No. 1 albums with Life Music: Stage Two (2015) and Make Room (2018), fifteen Stellar Awards, four GMA Dove Awards, and five Grammy Award nominations.
Music Career
His music career was launched in 2012 with the release of Life Music on September 25, 2012 under Light Records and Entertainment One Music. This was his Billboard chart breakthrough, peaking at No. 98 on the Billboard 200 along with No. 3 on Gospel Albums and No. 23 on the Independent Albums chart.
His song “No Gray” was a viral hit that earned him a TV appearance on BET’s Celebration of Gospel and fans in India including Arie and Nicki Minaj.
Jonathan McReynolds’ second album, Life Music: Stage Two, was nominated for a Grammy Award, was the #1 Billboard Gospel album for four weeks, and won a GMA Dove Award. It featured Israel Houghton, India.Arie and Chantae Cann and his top five gospel hit “Gotta Have You.”
Bob Marovich gives the album five stars for the Journal of Gospel Music, saying, “Life Music, Stage Two is a musical expression of his honest and spiritually grounded approach to dealing with the vicissitudes of everyday life.”
Jonathan McReynolds brought in another popular R&B talent, Tweet, on his EP Sessions (2016). This unannounced, surprise release reached number one on the Christian iTunes chart overnight.
Jonathan McReynolds’s third album, Make Room, was Jonathan’s biggest success to date, earning him eight Stellar Awards and two Grammy Award nominations. It also debuted at #1 on the Billboard Gospel chart. Make Room promoted their first #1 radio hit “Not Lucky, I’m Loved” and the huge viral hit “Cycles”.
This album received public support from stars of various cultures and genres such as Justin Bieber, Kandi Burruss and millions of listeners worldwide. This project provided strong evidence for Kirk Franklin’s claim that Jonathan is in fact “the future of gospel music”.
In March 2018, he broke mainstream gospel ground when his hour-long TV special “Make Room” aired multiple times on TVOne. It was also the first in its genre to form a major partnership with Tidal.
If all that wasn’t enough, McReynolds narrowly missed out on the bestseller list with his fall 2018 book, “Make Room: Finding Where Faith Fits.”
In June 2019, Jonathan McReynolds starred alongside Kirk Franklin, Kelly Price and Erica Campbell as a judge on Season 9 of BET’s Sunday Best. In 2020, he released People, an EP with “Moving On”, winner of the 2021 Grammy for Best Gospel Performance/Song.
Soon after the Grammy win, the highly successful BET+ movie “Favorite Son” was released. His first acting role ever, McReynolds starred alongside Rotimi, Serayah and Loren Lott.
In August 2021, McReynolds scored his fourth consecutive Gospel Airplay #1 with “Grace”.
