As part of activities to mark 2024 International Women’s Day, the management of Lift Above Poverty Organisation has gifted four women who have distinguished themselves in their various fields with N1.3m.
The Chief Executive Officer of LAPO, Godwin Ehigiamusoe, in Benin, Edo State on Friday, said financial empowerment was part of the organisation’s policies to celebrate women who have excelled in their chosen careers as well as their contributions to the economic development of society.
With the theme, “Advancing Gender Equity Through Economic Empowerment,” Ehigiamusoe, noted that the organisation had been recognising and celebrating women who had made a mark in society for the past 12 years.
He said, “The women were recognised for their contributions to the society and humanity and the programme was organised under the LAPO Outstanding Women Leadership Award. This year’s event is the 12th edition and 41 women have been honoured since the inception of the programme.
“The awardees are Imose Osar-Emokpae, the first Board Chairman of LAPO, who bagged the LAPO Lifetime Achievement Award; Udemba Anke, who bagged the professional award; Mary Izogie, farming category award; and Idele Dimkpa, business category award.
“The winner of the LAPO Lifetime Achievement Award got N400,000 and a plaque, while the three other awardees were gifted N300,000 and a plaque each,” he added.
Ehigiomusoe posited that, as part of the organization’s vision and mission to lift people out of poverty, a lot of women have been empowered financially as well as access to quality healthcare.
The awardees commended the management of the organisation for the honour.
