The lawmaker representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Olaide Akinremi, has urged his colleagues not to complain about committees given to them.
The House of Representatives on Thursday unveiled 134 Standing Committees for its oversight functions and other legislative activities for the 10th National Assembly.
Some of the Chairmen and their portfolios included Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker (Abia)-Constitution Review Committee; Abubakar Bichi (Kano)-Appropriations; Muhammed El-Rufai (Kaduna)-Banking Regulations; Hon. Bamidele Salam (Osun)- Public Accounts; and Ikenga Ikeagwuonu Ugochinyere (Imo) among others.
Akinremi stated this in a statement he signed on Friday urged his colleagues to accept their committees in good fate and work for the country’s development.
It partly read, “Just like the speaker said during the plenary session that there are no grade ‘A’ or juicy committees, I urge fellow lawmakers not to complain. They should accept these committees’ leadership and work hand in hand to achieve the goals set by the 10th Assembly leadership. This is aimed at national development.”
Akinremi said with the committees in place, the House was ready to perform its duties for the benefit of citizens.
“The list released showed a masterstroke that will deliver efficiency and productivity for Nigeria as a country. This tenth assembly will be vibrant in checkmating and delivering the renewed hope Nigeria desperately needs.
“Now that the committees of the 10th House of Representatives have started taking shape, we can trust that the leadership of our very committed and patriotic Speaker, Tajudeen Abass, will delve deeply into the business of lawmaking, oversight, and delivering equitable management of the executive for the benefit of the Nigerian people,” the statement added.
He, however, lauded the speaker for the careful selection of committee chairmen in the Green Chamber.
