Israel Houghton (born May 19, 1971) is an American contemporary Christian music singer, songwriter, producer, and worship leader. He is usually called Israel & New Breed.

He produced Michael Gango’s album Bigger Than My Imagination, which was called “one of the best worship albums of the year” in a 2003 Christianity Today review.

He is also of mixed race, born to a Caucasian mother and an Afro-Jamaican father. Horton was married to Meretha Horton from 1994 until they divorced in 2015, and their divorce was finalized on February 22, 2016. During the marriage, the musician had two sons with his girlfriend Devan Moreno. On November 11, 2016, Horton married singer and television personality Adrien Her Byron in Paris after months of dating. In 2022, the couple welcomed their first child together, a son born through a surrogate mother.

Awards and Nominations

Houghton’s awards include six Grammy Awards. Three Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Albums and one Best Traditional Gospel Album for him, Alive in South Africa.
