Text: Luke 2:41-51
MESSAGE
This is the only biblical account of Jesus’ childhood. Still, much can be learned from this short explanation.
At the age of 12, Jesus’ wisdom amazed those who had spent his life studying the Bible (verse 47). Remember, Jesus did not always have access to copies of Scripture the way we do today. He had to rely on visits to synagogues and knowledge of direct revelations from Heavenly Father.
He also questioned these scholars (verse 46). This is amazing when you realize that all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are in him! (Column 2:
3) He was a god, but he had a body that needed discipline. At that young age, he knew exactly who his real father was and why he was born (v. 49). We can only guess how this must have affected his childhood.
Thus we see that Jesus knew his vocation and destiny from his early childhood. However, there is no record of his miracles or ministry until he was baptized by John at the age of thirty. Preparing the body for God Almighty to manifest was not an easy task. We praise the great love of God who sacrificed everything for us.
