1K Phew – Safe ( ft. Jai’Len Josey)
Award-winning Reach Records artist 1K Phew releases “Safe,” the third single and video from their forthcoming album As I Am, due out in Fall 2022.
The refined rawness and genuine directness of 1K Phew resonates with people who know God but feel trapped on the streets. His previously released songs “The Offering” and “Church House Trap House” speak directly to and for them. His latest track “Safe” ft Jai’ Len Josey is an introspective letter of thanks to God for saving him from a near-death experience.
Despite growing up in the church with two praying parents who loved and encouraged him, 1K Phew still found himself on a destructive path as a teenager. “It wasn’t until I almost got shot one day that I decided to truly surrender my life to God and His plan.
Every time I’ve tried to do things my way, it hasn’t worked for me. This incident was a turning point for me. It had to be God that day because I was so close to losing my life. I automatically started thanking God for sparing my life. Getting so close to death was the wake up call I needed. From that day on I was different. I’ve committed to a personal relationship with God rather than being religious. I am so thankful that God protected me.”
Feeling redeemed and renewed, he focuses on a greater goal, which includes creating music that the Saints and the Hood can feel and identify with. The lyrics are transparent. “I’m not trying to be another one on this list who left too soon. Because I just need to make it back to my kids, I have a few. Tryna pay my dues got something to lose Because they always heard my neighborhood on the news. And I’m living proof, but I’ve got nothing to prove. And I brought my brothers who might as well save her.”
Recently, 1K Phew was named Rap/Hip-Hop Album of the Year at the 37th Annual Stellar Awards for his collaborative album with Lecrae, No Church In A While, and shared with Lecrae a 2002 Dove Award for Rap/Hip -Hop Album of the Year” (No Church In A While) and Rap/Hip-Hop Song of the Year for “Wildin”, a song on the album.
“I just want to share my life through this music. My message is faith, hope and encouraging people to be their authentic selves in Christ. The story I’m telling is how I overcame my obstacles,” shares 1K Puh. “You can’t force anyone to follow your path, but you can hold it 1000, let your light shine and watch them come to you.”
